How Important are Paddles?

Paddles may be more important than your Kayak.  And they should be the best you can afford.  Sure you can find cheap paddles, but why would you want too?

Keep in mind that paddles will be the most used thing  you have in the boat.  They will be in almost constant use.  If you have a cheap heavy paddle, how long before your arms tire and your ready to head in and all it a day?

Be prepared to spend some money and get a good paddle that your will rely on for years to come.  As light as possible and one that fits your height, hand size. Consider buying your paddles well in advance of your kayak, just to ensure you can afford it and the boat.  If your going to skimp, skimp on the boat.

One of the things we advise at Kayak Reviews to those wanting to get in on the sport of kayaking for the first time is to consider renting a kayak first.   And if you go to a quality renter, they will hold an introduction to kayaking safety course before they let you rent.

This is a real good idea because safety is paramount and the more informed you are and prepared to handle events, the more enjoyable your introduction will be to the fun world of kayaking.

You might try renting several times to acquaint yourself with the differing types of kayaks available for sale.

Buying kayak accessories will then be easier as well.  And as discussed in the previous section, you’ll soon know that buying kayak paddles of good quality means less work and more enjoyment during your adventure.
